Auspicious Beginnings

Our beloved Mangala Yoga founder, Maureen DeLucia, received the vision for creating a yoga studio while lying in final resting pose (Savasana) at the end of a yoga class in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Neither a yoga instructor nor a business owner, Maureen was both surprised and moved by the vision! Not completely sure how to proceed, she devised what felt like a logical, 5-year plan for manifesting this vision into reality…

The Universe had other, more expedited, plans for her!

Through a series of synchronistic events Maureen found herself partnered with a seasoned yoga teacher and experienced yoga studio owner only a few short months later. The woman took Maureen under her wings and shortly thereafter, she became the co-creator of an extremely successful yoga studio in Northern California.

This was the auspicious beginning of Maureen’s career as an E-RYT 500 yoga instructor (trained by Janet Stone), 200 and 300-hour Yoga Alliance Accredited yoga teacher trainer, health and wellness program facilitator, and space holder for thousands of yoga practitioners.

Unprecedented Growth

Two and half years into her exciting studio co-ownership venture, Maureen decided it was time for another big shift. Feeling called to a simpler lifestyle on the island of Maui, she sold her studio ownership, her house and most of her belongings and moved with her family to Maui.

Doors opened for her in ways that confirmed her decision to move (mahalo, Ganesha!) and she opened Makawao Yoga (now Mangala Yoga) shortly after arriving on the island.

Membership grew swiftly and eventually the studio began to burst at its seams! So she decided to expand the Makawao location to include a infrared heated and fitness studio to accommodate the persistent demand for more classes that features our dynamic yoga style.

Shortly after the expansion of the Makawao studio, the winds of change brought her to Telluride, Colorado where she opened her fourth yoga studio. She was inspired to open a heated studio on Main Street in this picturesque town. She maintains this platform for teachers to share their passion and leads the annual teacher training program.

In addition to the physical expansions, over the years she has developed and trained hundreds of yoga teachers and practitioners from all over the world with her unique 200 and 300-hour yoga teacher trainings, workshops, and 5-week yoga challenges.

True to Our Core

Throughout our steady growth we have stayed true to our dedication to create a sense of community and family (ohana). Teachers know their students by name and create opportunities for connection in and outside of class. Bonded in our commitment to better ourselves, Mangala Yoga has become a dearly loved sanctuary for thousands of our residents and visitors alike.

We humbly and gratefully thank each and every student who has given us the opportunity to share our passion and love of yoga. Mahalo!
