Mangala Yoga Telluride has officially opened its doors!
Mangala Yoga has ties worldwide. Through immersive yoga teacher trainings on Maui in two studios coupled with international retreats, the studio’s community grows wider every year, spreading the gift of yoga asana and theory through its students, teachers, and ambassadors.
As some may know, founder and owner Maureen Gildersleeve recently relocated to Colorado and has been traveling back and forth to and from the island for special events and trainings. As some of you also may know, Maureen isn’t good at sitting still for long (unless she’s meditating of course). So she decided to open Mangala Yoga’s third studio in her new home: the historic ski town of Telluride.
After months of planning, paperwork, and physical labor, the studio is open and teaching a range of classes from its signature heated vinyasa flow to gentler styles. Of course Maureen couldn’t do it alone, she called upon her Maui ohana (Hawaiian for family) to help. Three esteemed Maui teachers (Annmarie Torez, Max Ferris, and Jessica Fertig) ended up relocating from warm tropical Hawaii.
Annmarie acted as the assistant studio manager in Maui for three and a half years before moving to Colorado to manage the new studio. She is proud to see the studio open and classes full. She had this to say about the opening day:
“It was a bluebird sunny day and a full class with high energy. I remember the night before, we were adjusting the light fixtures, setting the thermostat of the infrared heaters, sweeping the floors (“just one more time”) and saging away. After years as assistant manager for our Maui locations, I was SO EXCITED to step into the role of studio manager for our new little mountain town. I remember my voice shaking with the opening OM .. just all the feels. We feel honored to have held the community together, an extended ohana for sure! I can’t wait to see how we’ve all grown in a year’s time.”
Come in and visit the new studio! 30 days for $30 specials are offered for locals to try out new classes and teachers before committing to a membership. Make sure to drop into Maureen, Annmarie, Max, and Jessica’s classes to get a taste of true aloha spirit.
