Melissa

- Yoga Teacher

Melissa began her yoga journey shortly before a very transformative time in her life. In 2013 she received a divine intervention, in which she injured her knee and immediate reconstructive surgery was required. This event created a 180 degree shift in the direction of Melissa’s life, that created much pain and suffering for her. Yoga was the beacon that illuminated the path from the darkness into light for Melissa.

Early on in her practice, it became clear to her that she was meant to teach yoga. In 2017 Melissa began her studies at the Himalyan Institute of Buffalo, for her 500RYT, and in 2020 she completed her Yin Yoga 50YTT through Yoga International. She has a background in massage therapy, anatomy, and a natural love and interest for the human body, mind, and spirit.

In her classes you can except to be held in a loving way where you will be encouraged to explore the vastness of all that you are. Melissa will invite you to listen to and honor what you body needs. Each class will start with breath awareness, centering and grounding, followed by a creative sequence that is intended to bring you into greater balance, steadiness, and ease. She will remind you to breath, soften your jaw, and play. She will challenge you to expand your edge and build the capacity to hold it.

Melissa’s intention and wish for her students is for them to learn to listen and trust themselves. For them to feel comfortable, at home, and empowered in their bodies. To illuminate their inner radiance, find joy, and their breath in all of the shapes that life and the mat have for us to explore.
